Although The Sacred Art of Stealing will always remain my favorite Brookmyre book, this book, as a prequel of sorts, is equally fantastic. Brookmyre knows how to write - he has a knack for the English language, akin to chewing up words and spitting them out, that few other authors have been able to master.

Loved this - funny, eloquent, twists and turns, brilliant Scottish references, various interlinking stories. Easy but stimulating read.

Chris Brookmyre's writing is for me! I've read all his books on audio and they work so well in that format. It was funny, Scottish and a good story with threads that tied up in the end. Another success from Brookmyre.

A likable regular guy hero along with the author's patented dark humor, violence, and improbable plotting made this far too long book set in Scotland and dealing with terrorism an entertaining read.

Published in 2001, before 9/11: a book about terrorism, which seems almost clairvoyant in its many of its thoughts and ideas, but in the usual crazy, absurdist, surreal Brookmyre style.

Yet another brilliant book!

I wish I had read it before the other Angelique books (I ended up reading them in reverse order- oops) As this definately sets up the characters and their histories.

Simon is an ace bad guy hopefully he'll be appearing in more in the future
