I give it a 3.5 star rating. This book would have been better if the author dis not put so many characters in this book. I am unsure if I will read book 2 and especially since after meeting all those characters (both fiction and nonfiction) who is left to meet?

This was a fun, lighthearted read. The dialog was fantastic and how can you go wrong with a talking cat! (Austin is hands down the best character, of course.) I liked all the fun side characters and various hat tips to mythology and folklore.

Couple quibbles - I don't think the world in which the story takes place was fully fleshed out. I'm still not completely sure if I understand the magic system in which the book operates, nor do I really get the extent or basis of Claire's powers. Will I read the next book? Not sure. Mainly because I think it might involve a lot more Diana, a character whom I found rather irritating. I'm one of those who got to experience the downfall of season 5 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer because of the introduction of Annoying Kid Sister Dawn, so I'm not sure if I'm really interested in a Book 2 full of more Dawn Diana. But Austin will be there, and he's the best, so... we'll see.

It's probably more of a 3 book but I'm bumping it up to a 4, just for the fun factor.
