Whewwwww, I could not have cared less about any of the characters, or the plot, or any aspect of this story. Literally trudged my way through to the end 😬

I hoped this book would be everything I'd heard. The opening warning was good but didn't live up to the hype of how dark it was supposed to be. A few murders, some light torture, bdsm, kidnapping, James has trauma from being SA as a kid by his uncle. Not that dark really, or I'm really f*cked up inside to the point that stuff doesn't phase me. I'd go with its just not that dark. Wendy is boring, predictable, and a naive idiot. I don't get why she even likes him let alone loves him. He isn't even a proper Villain I was hoping for, just a drug dealing murderer, very typical and not that bad. Also the nose fetish is definitely a neiche one i havent seen in a book before. Not my taste but you do you. One of the good things j can say about this book is, i kept forgetting the author is a woman and not a man. Emily is incredible at writing from the male perspective as disgusting as it is, he really sounds like a typical man. It was very well written in that way.

However, the plot was predictable, it was so obvious about
Moira being one of the ones considering against him, same as Smee. After I figured it out, I was just waiting for it to finally click in hooks head. How oblivious is he? However, I will admit I didnt see the part that Smee is his cousin or that Jon is his half brother. The half brother plot is unnecessary to the story and doesnt make sense unless Wendys dad is completely deranged. Murdering an entire family over some cheating doesn't seem like him, a man who barley cares about his family. I can understand not caring about the cheating wife or son who isnt his but he doesnt even care about his own daughter. It would have made more sense for him to kill James family over a business dispute so it feels like an unnecessary plot twist just for thr shock factor

This book is hard to rate. It was good in parts and not so good in others. Part of me wonders if it’s just the genre.

if I wanted to see a raging misogynistic edgelord talk about how women are beneath him only for him to somehow win the girl with mediocre sex and weird pet names, I'd read fucking Andrew Tate fanfiction, and I reckon I'd still somehow enjoy that more than this book.

I'm sorry but if this is their idea of good smut/relationships, then I am so sorry for straight women.
