The story line was not very believable. The dialogues did not seem from the time - especially the one about pregnancy and about sex. The H sounded like a spoiled brat at the beginning, that improved though. The h was spunky, which I like.

Overall, below standard for Laura. But I still finished it and was interested in the outcome.

It was not good. A lot of what happens made no sense. For example,
Why would he offer to teach her how to "kiss disrespectfully" when he's trying to keep her at arms length? made no sense. And it was so unnatural, the way the conversation happened.
Or how she was so sought after, received so many proposals, after remaining unmarried at 24. That's 6 seasons! Why would any man of the time want to marry what constituted a spinster? Most of them would have stopped calling after like her second or maybe third season.
Or how people were calling him a "murderer" because a lady he was pursuing eloped and died at sea. WHAT?! It's so stupid! They might pity the man, for being jilted, but blame him for an accident? c'mon!
Or how he freaking forces her hand, tricking her into marrying him instead of Mr. Tidmore, because basically he knew better and she was making the wrong decision, based on the information she possessed. She was actually making an informed decision, it wasn't her fault he's an asshole and didn't give her the whole truth! So let's make the decisions for the dumb lady, she can't possibly make the right one. Gah!
Also, it seemed the author didn't have a lot of knowledge about the time period, and just wrote from what she read about in other novels, so it didn't feel very accurate. The dialogues during the sex scenes were awkward and made me cringe a little.

I have been provided with a copy of The Duke’s Bride: Regency Romance by the author for an impartial review. This is the first book in the Regency Brides series and in this new series we are introduced to the Duke of Ashten and Lady Ellie Trentbury along with her family. I absolutely loved entering this world and meeting these wonderful characters. This book was just so much fun to read and I completely fell in love with the characters. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and see more of these wonderful characters.

Nothing in this book makes sense... The characters are super unlikeable especially Ellie and Ashten. The "reason" why Ashten doesn't leave his house is awful and makes no sense. This book is not historical accurate and doesn't try to be, Ashten and Ellie would never have that kind of relationship at the time and the "reason" why they can't be together is bad.

Actual trash. I cannot tell you what compelled me to pick this up AND finish it, but it was not worth my time.
