This story is basically my favourite song: I'm a man of means by no means, king of the road.
I had every intention of not liking this book. What happened – was that I absolutely fucking loved it.
The rawness of Jimmy (also, thank you very much for only giving us Jimmy’s POV), and Shane. The sweetness with the realization that he was in love with Shane… the slowness of how the story unfolds and we find out who Jesse is.
There were a couple of loose threads and it felt like the book rushed in the end – but man, seriously. PURE FUCKING LOVE.
The thing about being someone who always wants to get to the next town, city, the next adventure. And finally finding a place where you belong and wondering if you’d just lose it all.
Shit, I fucking loved the rawness and the desperation.
A simple story. Amazingly told.

Oh I loved this so much. It's so nice to read a story with older characters instead of the usual teens or early 20s men.
Jimmy was such a beautifully drawn character, Shane matching him in strength and depth and I could smell the dust and the pancakes from Mae's in a town which was also brilliantly brought to life.

This story blew me away.
It's a quite one, with this sense of doom laying over it like a cloud and you don't really know why still everything manages to seem so cheerful, so beautiful, until IT happens.
The love story is such a sweet and gentle happening, the narrator has one of the most heartbreaking voices I ever experienced.
I adored the dealing with physical disabilities and poverty.
The extent to which this book provokes thought is truly impressive and should make people that accuse romance of being empty entertainment stop and be hit in the face with the strength of their mistake.
Small town love story that quietly saves lives and changes the world...yea, sign me up.

This was great. I loved the development of the main characters and the strong sense of place and setting. The pacing could have been better, because it had a REALLY slow start. The narration was fine.
Well this just shot straight to the list of top five books I've read all year. Wow.
Your privileges blind you to some things, some really important things. Read this story keeping that in mind. Our point of view character, Jimmy, is a lifelong drifter who wants nothing and expects nothing, takes what's given and moves on. And then he picks up a drifter, and goes where the other guy needs to go because it doesn't matter to Jimmy. Nothing does, why should it?
Read this one. For a low-drama story, it packs some wicked punches for the observant reader.

There's a fine line between books in which nothing happens (I'm narrowing my eyes at [b:The Waves|46114|The Waves|Virginia Woolf|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1439492320s/46114.jpg|6057263]) and books in which just enough happens. [b:Rattlesnake|26009668|Rattlesnake|Kim Fielding|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1438268572s/26009668.jpg|45928823] is a gentle delight that opens slowly, with a car that's coughing its way across the US, a corpse that's going nowhere fast, and a man who doesn't believe he belongs anywhere. Eventually, Jimmy and his stories drift into the peaceful town of Rattlesnake. Once there, it's not hard to guess the nomad's going to stick around - the pleasure is seeing his gradually unfurling delight in the little things he's been denied, and his unhurried relationship with Shane. An unpretentious read that was unexpectedly touching and rewarding.
Loved this one. Kept drama to a minimum while really deepening the connection to the characters. It was a pretty awesome story.
