I wanted to like it more, but the Angie character was pretty insufferable & the fact that the killer was given away so early was disappointing.

I had given up on Karin Slaughter because of many reasons, but I had already bought several books in both this and the Grant County series. Then my spouse and I watched the first season of Will Trent, and I thought maybe I should at least give the Will Trent books a try. Coming from a very similar background, I connected with the TV Will Trent in a way that I normally don't with a police detective.  So, at first, I was honestly a bit disappointed that the book Will Trent was a lot different from the quirky, Latino TV one. However, this soon faded, and now I can't believe that that show came out of this gritty, but excellent (judging by the first book) series.

This book had multiple POV characters, but I can say that Slaughter handled each of their headspaces well. You grew to sympathise with those who were affected by the actions of the crimes committed in this story, and loathe the “baddies”, but in a way that was satisfying despite the obvious evil of the antagonists. 

And I can't believe the series really ret conned some of the characters to the extent that they did. IYKYK.

absolutely loved this book. the characters were charming (except the scumbag) and the mystery and thriller aspect was written well, and the end was revealed in a way that was very exciting. maybe it's just because i've never read a thriller before but i absolutely loved this
