This is the most disappointing Sanderson book ever, mostly because its clearly not a Sanderson book.

As part of his co-authored novella project to add more depth and characters to the worlds he creates, Sanderson has released Lux set in The Reckoners world.

It starts off okay, but the characters and plot quickly get predictable and forgettable. And the quality really goes away in the second half.

The plot itself felt borrowed from the Avengers (floating city plummeting to the ground sound familiar anyone?), with the tech abilities of the MC meaning any and all obstacle could magically be overcome. It makes it feel as if there are no stakes and it becomes pretty dull.

For a novella, this is a long book and a boring listen. I would regularly find myself zoning out or having to work hard at paying attention. If I turned it off for a break, I would find I'd completely forgotten what was going on because it was so unegaging.

This has NEVER happened when reading a Sanderson before, so I can only put it down to this being co-authored and actually being an outline by Sanderson but someone else's writing. I'm surprised it made it through to final product as is.

The Reckoners has been my least favourite of Sanderson's work anyway, but this novella really takes the wooden spoon. It's set itself up for a sequel and I am not sure if I will continue.

I was entertained but felt no personal connection to the characters or story. This is a very subjective rating because it wasn’t bad, but for me, there was no sense of urgency when the stakes were high.

I liked this more than the main Reckoners series. Please Sanderson, give us Lux in text form too!
