My first book by this author. Although entertaining for most part, I felt the "solution" of the crime was too dependent on the perception "super powers" of the main character rather than actual clues presented by the plot.

Intriguing mystery, first in the series. This is the first time I have encountered the male author who is absolutely terrible at writing female characters.
We've all seen those posts about the ridiculous things men write to describe women, whether it be their thoughts, bodies, or actions. I rolled my eyes several times at his inept description of the female character. Despite this, the mystery is solid enough to make this a 3 star read. Let's hope he matures when dealing with females in future books. 🤞

Searching for my next "Jo Nesbo" haven't quite found him/her. Decent thriller, but not great. I hate it when I guess "who done it" halfway through.
Didn't get into the main character, Inspector VanVeeteren at all. He barely had a pulse. Give me Harry Hole (flawed though he may be) any day!

This flaming hot mess has a blackout drunk who realizes who the killer is and then ALERTS THE KILLER, a ridiculously insecure prison, a detective who convinces the entire police department to follow his irrational hunches, and a murderer whose motive is .. oh, never mind, I don't even want to think about it. Yet the prose is smooth, and I enjoyed the scene where the detective gets a back rub from the witness he's questioning.

This was an entertaining mystery with an amusing investigator. Some of the wording seemed awkward, but that is probably because of the English translation.
