While it's impossible to exist in the evangelical world and not be aware of Beth Moore, I certainly was not familiar with her story. And I certainly wasn't expecting it to be so heartbreaking, so hopeful, and so dang beautifully written. Moore takes us through her childhood, growing up and young adult years, married and early family life, the development of her study and ministry, and the recent hardships in her former denomination of the SBC. I was brought to tears so many times. But what will stick with me from Beth Moore's story, as I'm sure was her intention and hope, is the incredible love of Christ.

I was honestly surprised how deeply moving I found this memoir. I’ve always had a deep respect for Beth Moore as a Bible teacher and a woman navigating a patriarchal context. But there have been times I also found her frustrating because I felt like she held to the same beliefs that consistently oppressed her and other women. Yet, at great personal and professional cost, in recent years she has pushed back and I find her resolve and courage incredibly inspiring.

I cried in so many chapters. And resonated so deeply with her mixed feelings about the church and yet her love for the local churches she attended. I resonated with her wrestling with a clear call on her life to teach and share the scriptures and Jesus, and being in a context that will always treat that calling with suspicion because of gender. The way she vulnerably shared some deep personal tragedies and valleys left me with tears streaming down my face.

I’m so deeply thankful for this book, especially for a season in my life where the struggle is more acute and the assumptions around me don’t match what’s going on inside. I will continue to cling tightly to Jesus, as her words reminded and encouraged me to do.
I can’t say enough good things.
