I went into the Vera Wong series expecting a comedic mystery. What I got was a FMC who felt like an Asian Grandma Mazur nosing her way into a possible murder case, and I'm not mad about it. Vera is enduring and the kind of grandma figure many of us dream of having around. This book also delivered found family, an estranged sibling and family dynamic, reunited high school friends, and a blossoming love story. My favorite aspect was watching the ensemble rediscover their passions in life through the most unexpected means. I may visit more books in the series later, because the vibes felt wholesome yet intriguing. The audiobook narration is done well, too, with distinct styles for each pov.

I could not live this book more!!! This was the sweetest and funniest story of found family. I did this on audio and the narrator did an amazing job at the accents- she really made the character come alive in a way that wouldn’t have happened by reading it.
