Trina works hard to protect the animals in her town and when she gets word of a dogfighting ring she works closely with the local sheriff's department to bring it down. When she brings home the dogs to recover as they rebuild their strength there's just something about one that pulls to her. Shadow knows that when he can he will transform back in to his human form but is not sure how Trina will accept him. Once Trina recovers from her shock of finding a man where a dog used to be, she knows she'll do anything to help Shadow and his pack as he attempts to recover from the wrongs done to them. Great start to a new series, interested to see where it goes from here.

This book had sat on my shelf for a while & I had completely forgotten about it. I think the cover didn't really inspire me to take it up. When I did though I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, it's a novella. Yes, it's book 1 in a series & while it didn't completely tie the ending up in a big happy bow, was satisfying enough that I didn't feel ripped off by having the story leave me hanging. I loved the storytelling from both points of view & found that there was enough left unanswered/incomplete to happily send me to the next in the series.

Probably somewhere between 2 & 3 stars. I liked the premise of the story but because it was novella it wasn't fully developed and the ending was very abrupt.

Bad guys suffer minor financial penalties! Other bad guy runs off into the woods without dinner! Werewolf society has deep seated class, genetic, and sexism issues, but no one is trying to change that.
Werewolf male lead shows how brave and strong he is by waking up female lead during a nightmare. Female lead cured of years of crippling survivors guilt and alcoholism by magic sex with male lead.
Couples for sequels are already set up, all similar female-with-traumatic-past meets sexy werewolf who fixes her.
Not much to this story besides wish fulfillment, and the author could use some more creative wishes.
