The banality of (d)evil. A marvelous piece of criticism, matches Wilde's standards and then some, a high moment in the history of film criticism.

It's embarrassing to admit how long it's taken me to read one of James Baldwin's books, but I finally have and of course it was amazing and the best film analysis I've ever read.

Baldwin tends to meander in most of his writing; a style inclusive of all - and I mean, all - types of starts and stops within, and, often times, without, a singular sentence. So while there is some really insightful content here, this one does so to distraction.
