My first Stegner, and loved his writing. You know when you read something, something described in a specific way that you have often felt but never thought to/been able to express in words? I read somethings like that a number of times here...

This book was veeeeeery slow to start. Having never read Stegner before, his literary writing style and slow pace took some getting used to. I did end up enjoying the book quite a bit, despite the deflated ending. However, given his style I should have expected that! I will definitely read more Stegner.

March book club book! I was equally between giving this 2 stars and 4 stars so I settled with 3.
2 stars - I really don’t think that I was the audience for this book. It was so slow to get into, I literally didn’t finish it until 2 hours before book club. Part 1 boring, part 2 better but still slow, part 3 good. I struggled that the author kept being like “if you think something’s gonna happen here, it won’t!”
4 stars - it was beautifully written. Gives the feel of a classic book, I actually feel like if I was smarter or more into literature I really could have enjoyed it. I definitely think it could be a 4 star book for the right audience. Don’t let my review dissuade you, if you enjoy literature and friendship you’ll probably really enjoy this book.

Another personal favorite and enjoyed by book club too. Matt even liked it.
This is one I should read every decade.

This title will definitely be added to my all-time favourite list. It is a simple story about two couples who are locked into an amazing friendship, and how the battle between the order of man and the chaos of nature plays out on them all. It's funny how certain books come into your life at certain moments, as if there is a reason for it all.

Again I am reminded why Wallace Stegner is my favorite author! Magnificent. His writing takes me into the story and I live it and breath it with the characters.
