A 60% skim. First half is ridiculous Weekend at Bernie’s BS, second half stupid cat and mouse intrigue. Did not like.

Did I not understand this one? Why the high praise?
I was really looking forward to this book coming out the month prior, but it was such a disappointment. Sure, there are some nice themes on self-love and self-worth, but the writing, pace, and characters are all off, which swallowed that theming. This book was TOO long and slow for the content; I think it would have been better if so much of the fat of the book was trimmed. And the characters are a bunch of morons. Walking around with a dead body like it's Weekend at Bernie's? And NO ONE is the wiser? There wasn't a SINGLE officer out in the streets of NEW YORK CITY?! Give me a break. And the story was just nonsensical... and dumb.
All I could think while listening to this book was, "how much longer is this?!" And it is so blatantly obvious that the protagonist (David Alvarez) is a placeholder for the author (Daniel Aleman), so this reads like a shitty journal where a delusional man thinks he's the main character.
Also, the author rated his own book 5 stars... that's a red flag no matter how you shake it.

Charming, funny, at times deeply unserious. A fun mysterious read about someone doing all the wrong things in a hookup gone wrong scenario.
