Not only is this book in desperate need of some major copyediting (she's ditching her friend Jennifer, not raking hay...seriously, if you don't know how to spell a word, PLEASE don't use it every fourth page), but instead of the spicy enemies-to-lovers trope I was promised, lukewarm pseudo-acquaintances-to-bland couple was what I got.

Was there spice? Hardly. Was there chemistry? Decidedly not. And while I'm not always opposed to alternating POVs, the random chapters told from Roan's (which is a stupid fucking name btw) perspective took what little tension there could have been straight out of the story. If we know he's into Ivy the whole time, then they were never really enemies, were they? Ivy was just kind of a dick to him for no reason, and honestly, she was also kind of a whiny baby about every single situation and conflict that arose in her overly privileged life.

And because I don't want to bother redacting this review to cover a spoiler, I will refrain from detailing the main conflict (because lord if that wasn't the most irritating book problem I've had the displeasure of reading), but let's just say that any girl who considers giving up her lifelong dream because of a boy she's been dating for A MONTH, is stupid and not worth my time. And damn if the conflict wasn't resolve in a single chapter to boot -- my favorite, she said, sarcastically and while rolling her eyes.

I shouldn't say my hopes were high because this book was free on 'Stuff your Kindle' day, and yet what little expectations I did have were definitely not met. If you're looking for something smutty to burn through to get you out of a reading slump...consider something else.

Rating: 2/5

I really enjoyed this story. I love that he fell so hard and fast. It completely broke my heart when he broke his to put her dreams first.

Roan King is the hottest guy on campus. He reigns in and out of the football field and is so popular that a whole website is dedicated to him and his whereabouts. Everyone wants a piece of Roan King, with the exception of Ivy Kaster. She is sure he is nothing more than a jock who has everyone charmed and is cruising through college.

Ivy crashes on Roan on her first day of class, spilling her coffee all over him. After 18 months in Paris, she is ready to focus on her double major in dance and business. There is no time for boys, much less for the King of Campus, who also happens to be her next-door neighbor. When Ivy is forced to work with him on a class assignment, she discovers there is more to him than she might have initially thought.

The premise of this book was alluring, and the overall story was ok. But it was so repetitive. Whenever Ivy talked about her best friend Lexie, she would tell how they had been friends since middle school and how she had always been there for her. I get the characters are in their 20s... but one minute, they were talking about "pouncing" everything that moved and then about the deepness of love, just to say they had never experienced it.

Ultimately, I found it hard to care about the characters and their stories. So not the book for me.

2.5 ⭐️

nope I don't want to talk about this

This book is one of those easy and quick reads in a genre that I always enjoy reading about; it was well written and had likeable characters and what I especially liked about this book is that the girl character didn’t give up on her future to be with the male character.

The main characters are Ivy and Roan; Ivy has just come back to university after a year abroad in Paris and Roan is the football playing jock. Roan could have any girl at the university but after Ivy spilled coffee on him he seems hell bent on getting her. The two take their time getting to know each other as friends in this book before they enter into a relationship which for me was a refreshing change. And Ivy was still able to peruse her dreams and Roan is still able to peruse his.

The most noteworthy secondary character for me is Ivy’s roommate Lexie, she has a huge influence on Lexie, almost a sister figure.

The storyline was not original but it was enjoyable to me, although I seem to be able to reread these university romance books over and over again. The pacing was good and I especially liked the epilogue at the end letting readers know how the characters fared further down the line.

3.5 stars a decent read but nothing new or earth shattering

4⭐️ I find this author to be entertaining af! I would say it’s kind of similar to an Elle Kennedy but I think Elle is better overall obviously.

I liked this book! I thought the meet cute was great and then he ended up on her couch as she walked through the door complaining about him?! Hilarious

I really enjoyed this book. Honestly, it was the perfect book for me to read after some of the heavier books that I've read lately.
