A tale of brotherly love, the challenges faced by young Black men, and a life cut short. Place and time were vividly depicted - both the good and the bad. A realistically gritty look at the Caribbean immigrant experience in Toronto in the early 1990s. In some ways a sad and depressing read, but the tight community bonds shone through.

good book to read all in one sitting! heartbreaking story, but overall the writing wasn’t for me.

A truly imaginative work of allegorical fiction. Chariandy's introspection and exploration of the structures of marginalization are beautifully drawn out in some of the most stylistic writing I've read in recent years.
