Chariandy reads like poetry. He has a way with words so enticing and unique to any other storyteller I've come across, immersing you in his world. I'd recommend the audiobook to fully experience the cadence and rhythm of his words.
Wow. This book. I finished it just now with tears streaming down my face. A story about race, brotherhood, loss, and community...the writing is incredible & haunting & so much is said in such a short book.
I’m not from Scarborough but I recognized the area & the streets, and know people who did grow up there and in complexes just like The Park.
I loved this book so much, maybe even more so because it was also so devastating.

4.5!! this book was amazing. multiple times throughout reading i had to check to make sure that it wasn’t a biography. the writing was simple to seem realistic but so so beautiful. definitely recommend!!
I thought this book started slow, but the final 50ish pages were beautifully written, full of grief and sorrow.

I loved this book so much! and there really isn't much else to say about it, it was a short, tragic beautiful little story that brought me to tears!
Heartbreaking and poignant. Every word and every sentence was meaningful. A truly emotional book that shows the multi-dimensional burdens of immigrants, single mothers and people of colour, specifically the black community.
I could keep trying to explain how well and seemingly effortlessly Chariandy constructs this novel, but it would be worthless. Just read it.
