The writer tried to make a point about misogyny and slut shaming but failed, in large part because the characters don’t appear to have redeeming qualities. She created the term ‘Slamp’ to replace slut and I’ll be honest if you find yourself coming up with new terms when trying to address slut shaming, I think you’ve missed a few key points. She also has a blog where while trying to justify this storyline the author refers to people who don’t like it as ‘what is wrong with the world’ instead of considering that the point she thinks she was trying to make is valid but her execution of it is not doing what she thinks. She also claims book 7 in the series shows what she is trying to do and show that she herself is not endorsing slut shaming. But this slut has too many books that do it well to waste the time getting that far. It’s a pity, I liked her Winston series. But between this book and her defensive blog post showing she’s not able to understand the very valid criticisms of the misogyny in her book, she’s really killed off my interest. Her Winston books had flawed characters who were well executed, this one really doesn’t. I wasn’t interested in rooting for either heroine or hero and that’s so rare for me I can’t think of when that last happened.
