I really didn't enjoy this collection. The word choice was mediocre. There really wasn't a tone that will help me remember these poems in the future. I'm a fan of modern poetry, but this collection was even missing the umph of Lang Leav or Rupi Kaur.

I am so thankful I was able to get an ARC for this wonderful collection! It inspired me to move on and keep my head up even when I’m feeling down. I love how they sectioned off the inspiration. The author’s writing is so beautiful and I read it in one sitting! I definitely will continue to read their writing.

ARC eBook provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

"You are a summer day / and all the joy it brings / Mistakes do not define you / lessons are to be discovered / And often when you read poetry / there is a little bit of magic / uncovered"

I wanted to love this collection of poems, but it just didn't do it for me. I love poetry as a whole, and enjoy reading short Lang Leav / Rupi Kaur style works created to be broadly relatable, so it wasn't the style that bothered me. I "liked" a few poems here and there, such as the poem where the quoted line above comes from, but there was no poem that really got me. There was no poem that gave me that sucker-punched "oh" feeling that poetry provides when it's super relatable and emotion-evoking.

The majority of the poems came off pretty bland and disappointing, at least in my opinion. I didn't necessarily dislike this collection, but it's not likely to be one I'll ever pick up again.

MENDING THE MIND, the third installment of the Pillow Thoughts series by Courtney Peppernell was, like its two predecessors, beautiful, real, and accessible. I'm difficult when it comes to poetry, because I usually don't understand metaphors, don't want to think to hard whilst reading, and like everything straight to the point (even though I do appreciate language play in prose). Luckily, Peppernell's poetry is very understandable, relatable, and modern. Not every poem spoke to me, but especially the first one in this book I loved:
"I keep myself distracted all throughout the day
with coffee and books
and things that make me drift away
But always between every heartbeat
no matter what it is I do
I am constantly thinking of you"
I'm rating this book with ★★★☆☆
