Love Me to Death: A Novel of Suspense by Allison Brennan

This was the first book I’ve read by Allison Brennan. This was a very fast-paced, high-stakes FBI and PI thriller. I was a little dismayed that a lot of the main mystery was solved by about 65% through the book, but the culmination of the story redeemed itself. I struggled with maintaining suspension of disbelief regarding the “main bad guy” — he seemed so twisted and misogynistic and perverted that it felt like it couldn’t ever possibly be real (mostly just some specific details, like calling every woman he encountered “female” — I know that misogyny and perversion are real).

Will definitely be continuing with this series!

This was a great story. I was a little irritated though, as I thought this was a new series . . . but it turns out that it continues following familiar characters from previous books, only focusing on Lucy Kincaid. There's a lot of back story I was missing, so I'm off to track down those books from the library.

Sean has been a favorite of mine from the past few books that I've read from Brennan. I think Lucy is a great match for him. I was familiar with most of the characters from the FBI Trilogy that I have read.

Overall though, I really enjoyed the book once I got over the . . . crap, another series I've managed to start reading late in the game. Lots of action and intrigue.

I've already started listening to[b:Kiss Me Kill Me|2005138|Kiss Me Kill Me (Scarlett Wakefield, #1)|Lauren Henderson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1266452165s/2005138.jpg|2009057]

This story took me days to read and I was disappointed to not have gained the pleasure of a new series.

I found the writing extremely repetitive and over-explanatory , which led to the unnecessary length of the book. And I did not connect with the protagonists at all. I did not even find Lucy particularly qualified as a future agent based on how her characterization played out.

Brennan's novels are never short of suspense. Easing back into the seat after the bombs are dropped just sends readers back to the edge as the next chapter reveals new and unexpected information – after big reveals are already made. Lucy Kincaid is one of the strongest individuals in this world, working through a past that many have experienced, yet no one should have to. After dealing with the kidnapping and rape of six years ago, the last thing Lucy expects is to be put on someone else's radar – especially in a moment where she's in line to join the FBI and might actually be seeing someone in a romantic light for the first time in years. A new relationship kindling the surface turns fiery as he works to help save her life – and that's not just a figure of speech when it comes to Brennan's novels.
