I loved the original and loved this graphic novel adaptation! Absolutely beautiful!

Jason Reynolds’ Long Way Down is a masterclass in storytelling through poetic prose. The unique structure immediately pulls you in, blending rhythm and raw emotion to create an unforgettable narrative. While I found myself a little confused at times—perhaps due to the abstract nature of the ghostly encounters or the swift pace of the story—it only added to the dreamlike quality of the book.

The dark themes Reynolds explores are both gripping and thought-provoking. His depiction of real-life issues—violence, grief, and the weight of societal expectations—feels painfully accurate. The characters’ mindsets are written with such authenticity that you can’t help but feel their struggles and dilemmas as if they were your own.

Overall, Long Way Down is a powerful, evocative story that lingers in your mind long after you finish it. For anyone looking for a book that’s both poetic and brutally honest, this one is not to be missed.

Read Reynolds’ original novel in verse first, and then savor this graphic novel retelling. I can’t imagine anyone not liking this gripping tale of violence and loss — and, hopefully, redemption.

Such a powerful graphic novel - my partner got me into other graphic novels after we had both enjoyed the Heartstopper series and I am very grateful to have read this one!
