A good quick read. Powerful message. It’s haunting and definitely worthy of sharing. I like that it was translated to a graphic novel. It makes the story even more accessible. Would recommend.

This is a really stirring graphic novel on the cycle of revenge and its impact on a community. The story is impactful and the illustrations were strong, such as the grieving mother with her child and the boys throwing themselves over their dying friend on the playground. The murders and deaths start to blend into each other through the chain of revenge, decimating the people from their own neighborhood, with many young men living by the three rules of no crying, no snitching, and revenge. The use of ghosts in getting the story across was powerful, like a modern A Christmas Carol. The story leaves the ending open-ended, leaving the reader to decide, like the main character, which path he will take.

Long Way Down is one of the most moving and heartbreaking pieces of literature I have ever read. Jason Reynolds can do no wrong. When I saw that the novel in verse was being made into a graphic novel I pre-ordered right away.
The art by Danica Novgrodoff adds to the story in such an incredible way. She uses different techniques and styles at different parts of the story and the result is masterful. The art in combination with the story fully transports the reader to the smoke filled elevator.
