Sommige verhalen maken een grote indruk op je en blijven nog lang bij je nadat je het boek uitgelezen hebt. 67 Seconden van Jason Reynolds is zo’n boek. Toen ik zag dat er een Nederlandse vertaling van de graphic novel uit zou komen, kon ik niet wachten om hem te lezen! Ik heb het boek vorig jaar gelezen en vond het onwijs goed, dus ik wilde graag zien hoe het verhaal vormgegeven zou worden. De graphic novel stelde zeker niet teleur! Het verhaal is prachtig vormgegeven en ik vind dat de illustraties een prachtige toevoeging zijn aan dit al indrukwekkende verhaal. Nog iets wat dit verhaal zo speciaal maakt is het einde. Ik ga niks spoilen, maar het einde kan door iedereen anders geïnterpreteerd worden. Als je dit verhaal nog niet gelezen hebt raad ik zeker aan om het boek of de graphic novel op te pakken! Beide zijn quick reads, maar zullen niet snel uit je gedachten verdwijnen.

Some stories stay with you long after you read them. Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds is one of those books. When I found out that the graphic novel of Long Way Down was going to be translated into Dutch, I couldn’t wait to read it! Last year, I read the book in verse and thought it was an amazing read, so I was looking forward to seeing how the story was going to be converted into a graphic novel. It certainly didn’t disappoint! I loved the art and thought that it added to the story, making it even more impressive. Next to this, I really love the ending of this story and think that it makes this read even more special. I won’t be spoiling the ending but it can be interpreted in many different ways. If you haven’t read this story yet, I would 100% recommend reading either the book in verse or the graphic novel. Both are quick reads that will not quickly be forgotten.

wow wow wow. this was so heartbreaking. the art style was the best part in my opinion. it was absolutely beautiful and added to the story. i just wish we got more of a resolution to the story.

This was such a stellar adaptation! The color work, lettering, and bleeding of watercolor show Will’s emotions and thoughts. I love the pacing and stories of each new person on each floor. I raced through the book and had chills at the end. So good!!
