Didn't realize this was a graphic novel version of a regular novel. I'll have to pick up the original sometime. Beautiful art.

Jason Reynolds is one of my most favorite people on the planet, and I have read Long Way Down about six times now and in every format available. I have used this story for multiple book clubs and I push it on pretty much everyone I know. This graphic novel version is phenomenal, and I highly recommend it as a companion to the original novel. The beautiful watercolor artwork added a whole new layer to the story, and I appreciate that parts of the story that were cut out were worked into the art. Will's anagrams can be seen on his bedroom wall, for example, despite any reference to them being removed from the text. I hope this new format will introduce this story to a whole new audience who may not have been willing to read the original novel in verse.

the graphics were absolutely gorgeous 10/10, parts of the storyline were kinda confusing tho, still a very good quick read.

Heartbreaking, poignant and unforgettable. I listened to this on audio earlier this year and have been anxiously waiting to see this story come to life as a graphic novel. It does not disappoint. A MUST read that will be re read again and again.

So I finished this in half an hour. But I sat thinking about it for a long time after. It’s powerful. It’s heartbreaking. It’s art. This is up there in the “best of” lists for me. It explores cyclical violence in a compelling, heart wrenching way. The story leaves you with ghosts, paralleling the plot itself. I can’t recommend this one enough.

I’ve done it, I’ve hacked it, I know how to read on my phone now!
Graphic. Novels.
It’s like scrolling but more fun. I can’t stand reading hours of print on my phone but these small doses of mostly visual media are perfect. I’ve read Jason Reynolds’s poetry before so I knew I’d like the writing in Long Way Down. The watercolor art for the graphic novel is beautiful. We get to watch our protagonist take the elevator down to avenge his brother, stopping at every floor to pick up someone who has died by gun violence. Obviously content warning, but it’s poignant and a short, visually arresting read. Four taters 🥔🥔🥔🥔/🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔
