The second book from Trevor Wood returns to the streets of Newcastle with Jimmy, Dog and their band of friends and acquaintances. The first outing was a New Blood Pick for the Crime Writers Festival in Harrogate which unearths some true gems (think Jane Harper, Abir Mukherjee and Will Dean in recent years), which sets a bar that Trevor Wood is a superb talent.

I was hugely looking forward to this book and it didn’t disappoint. Subjectively, I love reading about Newcastle ... events happening on streets I walked earlier the same day (with my own dog who appears to be less well behaved than Jimmy’s canine companion; Dog).

The characters are superb. Each had issues but all are a pleasure to join again. The wider concerns of homelessness is smartly tackled and has led me to the website for the People’s Kitchen to see how to help.

The plot took a little longer to get going this time around but was hugely enjoyable nonetheless. I’ll be eagerly hoping for a 3rd instalment.

Thanks to Quercus and Netgalley for an advanced copy in consideration of an honest review.

2nd in the very enjoyable series about homeless veteran Jimmy Mullen who is drawn into investigating crimes which often puts himself , his family and friends at risk.
Here he is drawn to help his young friend Deano whose brother has disappeared at the same time as several runaways are dying in mysterious drug related incidents.
Had me turning the pages right to the last page.

I loved The Man on the Street and I loved this second novel in this series.
It’s gritty, fast paced and gripping.
A solid and well written novel that makes share Jimmy’s experiences and the life of homeless people.
It’s fuul of twists and turns and it kept me hooked till the end.
Strongly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this arc, all opinions are mine

Another cracking read. A trio of protagonists that society normally look down on.

Jimmy, Gadge and Deano are screaming out to be transferred from the page to the tv screens with the anti heroes becoming the heroes. Someone should make this happen.

I believe a 3rd book is on the way. I’ll be purchasing that as soon as I get the nod.

Deano’s long lost brother became mixed up with teenagers selling bad drugs and died.

Jimmy Mullen tries to help his friend find out what happened.

The second in this series I’ve read. Loved them both. Great characters: Deano much more central this time.  Hard to spot where the twists and turns are going to come. Roll on Jimmy Mullen 3
