Things I liked:
  • The premise, of a girl diving into her own webcomic for a teen romance with a magical twist
  • The teen super power storyline
  • The inclusion of a queer couple and a robot that uses they/them pronouns
  • The aspect of real people being forced to behave outside of their own inclination because of the writer’s will as a synonym for living under controlling parent(s)

Things I didn’t like:
  • The unexpected sadness of two characters bonding over the deaths of their loved ones in the very start of what I thought was going to be a YA lighthearted rom com story
  • The ending or a lack thereof- it left too many questions unanswered

Cute little YA romance and magical realism novel. I think this book is pretty good for what it is. The writing is decent and the premise is pretty fun. I felt like the characters weren’t as grounded as I’d like them to be, and the plot was kind of weak. I think the world building and development could’ve been better. But it is a YA novel. Quick read. I didn’t get the ick. I’d say it was okay.

I really wanted to love this one. The concept was something that I would ADORE. But unfortunately, this one fell kind of flat for me. I felt like there was just too much going on and the conclusion was just... too much at once. As a lover of reading webcomics, especially isekai ones lately, I really found it all interesting. I feel that this would have been a bit better if it had leaned more into the fantasy aspect and been longer. But even then, I did enjoy the book enough and want to read more from this author.
