This was just the book I needed to sit in the sunshine with. A nice easy read about children in a blended family that falls apart and what happens when they are adults. The rivalry and jealousy and will they finally pull together when their younger sister needs them.

I instantly liked Daisy and connected with her over the car vomit incident and how you are always at your worst when you bump into that one particular person at the exact moment you don’t want to. Daisy may have the big house and the housekeeper to help but her husband has just left her by text message and her car has broken down with her sick covered daughter in it.

That one person is stepsister Sage international glamour puss who was always the popular one but she’s now home with her tail between her legs, no money and back living with her mum.

So when they are brought together after younger sister Cassidy has an incident, they slowly start to see that the grass isn’t necessarily greener in the other sister’s gardens. All three are having problems and they really could use a sister or two to lean on.

An emotional family drama this has moments of both heartache and joy. Every single character stands out with all their different personalities and flaws and even the smaller characters blend in nicely and create what is best described as family.

First, where is the book cover here on GR? I had to get it from Edelweiss for my Bookstagram post. And where are the other reviews? This one's been out for a few weeks at Edelweiss.

Daisy's husband has, out if the blue, decided that they need some time apart. But he won't tell her why, just insisting that she knows. Meanwhile, her estranged half sister, Cassidy, has had a terrible accident and their father is insisting she move in with Daisy why she heals. And then, there's Sage. Sage is Daisy's ex-stepsister (older child of Daisy's father's second wife, who is also Cassidy's mom). They've never been close and Sage has spent the better part of 20 years in Europe, but now she's back in LA. Oh, and Sage's ex is Daisy's husband. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

I'm not really sure what to think about this one. I was all for the sisterly bonding and reconciling, but most of the characters here were just awful. *Warning: Mild spoilers from here on out.* Cassidy is awful in the beginning. Jordan is a terrible person. Sage's mom is a garbage person. Sage's neighbor whose name is escaping me negged her constantly and I hated him too. And then Sage's mistake in the end was awful. Then all this was set in the background of a super fancy house, but why? It felt like an additional character, but didn't actually add much TO the story. If not for the Sage thing in the end, I probably would have liked this one a bit more, but it was just too much for me.

Family drama and some romance. This story is about three sisters Daisy, Sage, and Cassidy in half-sisters and ex-stepsister complicated relationship. The sisters are estranged after Daisy's father and Sage's mother divorced. The parents have one child together, Cassidy.

Oh, the drama! It can be soapy at times, but also light and fun. Perfect for a holiday, weekend read. I think it's best not to get into the details and let you eye-roll as you go.

Strong Character Study With Maybe Not Quite Enough Introspection. This is one of those strong women-bonding-as-character-study type books where we get to see three very different women thrown together as a result of a family that blended and then dissolved years ago, and how that blending and dissolution affected all of them and even their common parents (one step father, one stepmother, both of whom combine to be the natural parents of the third sister). As someone who has a cousin that is actually in the exact position of the third sister - both parents having been previously divorced and having kids from those marriages - this was particularly interesting. As with the other Mallery book I've read so far, she does excellent work keeping things mostly realistic, and really my only fault here - potentially intentional, as it is still a realistic scenario - is that one of the three sisters perhaps doesn't look into herself as deeply as the other two do. Ultimately an engaging and satisfying book, this is thus very much recommended.

I will always read what Susan Mallery writes. There is something about her characters, they're lovable, they're flawed, they're brave and courageous. They are people I would like to have in my life.

This is a story of three women who are or were related to each other at one point in their lives, and now they are all in the same city wondering if they can create some sort of respectful relationship with each other.

This is fast read, but I took it slow. I wanted to let the characters and the story marinate for a little bit in my head. Let them breathe, if you will.

Thank you to NetGalley and MIRA Books for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
