I love how with Susan Mallory’s book you can just easily sink it to the book & everything else fades away. It’s a book about love for sisters & later in life learning about your childhood from that perspective & of the others who affected your growing up.

The Stepsisters is both entertaining and engaging. The characters are well written and their interactions are natural. A lot was going on in this story with plenty of interesting family dynamics. These sisters were substantially impacted by poor parenting from Sage and Cassidy’s mother Joanne whose belief is that beauty is everything.

The discussion about Daisy and Jordan’s marriage was interesting to read. Marriage is hard work and is constantly evolving. Without giving anything away, it was a realistic look at many long-lasting relationships- a topic not frequently discussed in books. The author communicates this with care and respect and I admire her ability to do so.

This is book is Women’s Fiction, with a touch of romance to create some balance. I appreciate books with family as central characters and love how this family came together to support one another during darker days.

Audiobook Review

I listened to the audiobook version of The Stepsisters which was narrated by Tanya Eby. She has narrated several other of Susan Mallery’s books and always gives a great performance. Her voice is articulate and her cadence is natural. If you enjoy audiobooks, I’d recommend this format.

Horrible people

What a horrible group of people. I only liked Daisy and the kids. They were rich, had everything and all they did was complain about everything. No one was nice to each other. I can't believe the Mother set up Sage and Jordan. That's really low.

4.5/5

As far as chick lit goes, this was definitely one of the more enjoyable ones I’ve read. The characters, those somewhat stereotypical, actually make rational decisions and for the most part are pretty relatable. I found myself really enjoying the story and relationships, though some of it was super unrealistic (but that’s part of the fun, right?). Overall, a good read for those who enjoy this genre.

Firstly, thank you Susan Mallery for gifting me a copy of this book! 🫶🏻

This was my first Susan Mallery book. It took me a bit to get used to her writing, but I found myself compelled with the story. This book is mainly character driven, and almost every character had some sort of relationship with each other, making it an interesting read.

There are just a few things that made me give this a 3 star rating:
One, every character was terrible. They all made horrible decisions and I felt zero connection with any of them.
Two, some of the dialogue felt wonky and unnatural. Natural sounding dialogue is important to me in character driven novels.
Third, women's weight was mentioned way too much. Why was that such a prominent theme in the story? FMC Sage's "thinness" was always talked about. FMC Daisy's "thickness" was also always mentioned. For what reason? To show that they're different? I'm sure they look different in other ways than weight.

Overall, this book wasn't terrible. It's different than other books of this genre I've read. If you're interested in reading a book about familial and romantic relationships, give this one a try.

this reminded me of the early sarah pekkanen books. light, easy reading with quiet conflict. weird mother/daughter/stepdaughter stuff, too.
