Characters: Sam (of the Wilds) Haversford, Tiggy the half-giant, Gary the hornless gay unicorn, Kevin the sexually aggressive dragon, Ryan Foxheart/Knight Commander Delicious Face, Prince Justin, Morgan of the Shadows, Randall, the King, Pete the guard, and Tina (fan club president).

A little warning that this book has crude and explicit language, sexual humour, and a ton of innuendo. Klune does a great job of keeping it entertaining and never making it seem out of place. The words flow and the banter ricochets between the characters.

I love this book. I love the humour, the banter, the characters, and the action. I love Sam’s dislike for monologues, Ryan’s magic kink, and Gary’s Unicorn Rage glitter rain. I have not gotten into a book the way I fell into this one in a really long time. I did not want to put it down and picked it up whenever I could, even if it only meant getting five more minutes of reading in. After finishing it I had no idea what to read next. I do not yet have access to the next book in the series and nothing else I have available to read looks nearly as fun. I am sad that it is over and I have to wait to see Sam and his friends again.

The overall humour was great, but the addition of the little things just made it that much better.
For example, the addition of the Ryan Foxheart Fan Club was hilarious. (#Havehart4ever) Then Klune kept changing the amount of times Sam visited each time Sam mentioned the club. Then Tina, the president, was made out to be Sam’s enemy. Then there was the banter between Tina and Sam at the meeting. Then, of course, Ryan stumbles onto the meeting. Then everything is exposed because of the corn truth serum.
The way that Klune keeps building and embellishing on jokes was brilliant. I’d be reading and then there would be a quick mention of something that came before in the book and it elevated the situation to a new level of humour. This happened throughout the entirety of the book. I laughed out loud often and smiled the entire time I was reading. Pure joy.

Another example of the humour building throughout based on a single incident is how the book starts. A Dark is monologue. Tiggy smashes. Then through the rest of the book the Darks try to seek revenge on Sam. Each instance that the Darks meet Sam is hilarious and magical. It is a great way to show the growth of humour, but it also shows the growth of Sam’s character. Compare Larkin (?) the Dark with the wedding fiasco and it is evident how much Sam has grown and changed over the course of the book. Other characters show growth as well, such as Knight Delicious Face (such a perfect name!), and Justin (just a little bit). Other characters seem to stay the same (Gary, Tiggy, Kevin, and Morgan), but that’s alright because I love them for who they are.

The ending was well done. I was a little bit nervous if I was going to get my HEA/HFN, but Klune pulled through and still made me want to get my hands on the next one. I did come up with my own alternative ending for Justin, which for a second I thought was actually going to happen, but didn’t.
I wanted Justin to get in a relationship with Dimitri, King of the Fairies. At the end Justin and Sam are totally becoming best friends and on this journey they get captured by Dimitri. I thought Klune had read my mind and was going to get Justin and Dimitri hooked up. I was thinking Dimitri would see Justin and get his size kink on. Dimitri would start complimenting Justin and Justin would think ‘of course I am this great, keep going’. I thought it would be more like Gary and Kevin where Dimitri is Kevin and Justin is Gary. Dimitri would flatter and woo Justin and Justin would see that someone cares about him and agree to date. The whole time Sam would wonder wtf was going on and was his ex (but not actually ex) really going to starting dating his true love and cornerstone’s exfiance who was ditched at the alter?! It would have been a hilarious scene with Sam freaking out out loud and no one paying any attention because they are too busy witness the rapture of Dimitri and Justin.
It would have been great and I am still hoping that it may happen in a future book.

I love this book. I want to get the next one and continue living in this world. I see that Klune is planning on publishing a new one next year, so yay! I recommend this book to everyone who likes queer mm romance in a fantasy world. Everything about this book is awesome.

We have rom-coms (romantic comedies), do we have fan-coms (fantastical comedies) too? If not, we should hv that genre & this book should be the crowning jewel of that genre!

This book is at times silly but is incredibly humorous at all times! It's filled with excessive puns, innuendos, swear words & sex talk and is meant for an adult audience.

Honestly I am quite astonished with myself for adoring this book as much as I do! Especially when I generally stay away from stories that have too much swearing & sex talk in it.

So, Why do I like it so much despite it being cheesy & sappy?? Coz of the writing & characters.

The writing is just fabulous! And the humour? I am using the often used phrase from this novel "Oh My Gods!" I haven't laughed so hard reading a book as much I did with this one.

Full credits to the audiobook though, I am not sure I would have loved it as much as I did if not for the audiobook. If not for anything else just check out the audiobook for the narrator, he's top class!!

Some of the things I absolutely adored in this book were the:
1. Humour
2. Witty dialogues & super awesome comebacks
3. Found family - the love & affection between the characters made me want to hug my own family members & risk creeping them out a bit due to my sudden attitude change😋

Things that I had just a teeny bit problem with:
Too much focus on Sam & his "awesomeness", like I get it, he's cool, he's the strongest blah blah but it all seemed too forced & artificially cheery.

He's supposed to be super powerful but apparently he's not aware of the effect he has on people. Sometimes his callousness & carelessness is taken a bit too casually. It all comes back to my pet peeve, I don't like adults behaving like kids, immaturity in adults is so uncool!

Also I absolutely didn't buy into the love story. At all! It wasn't romantic, it wasn't the mature & sensible love story that u wud expect from adults. It's too cliched but then  this story has a talking unicorn & funny monologue obsessed "villains", also a sexual relationship between 2 entirely different species! What else was I expecting? Hence I realised, It's fine to snooze my thinking brain for a while & have a chill, happy time with this novel.

This book is an incredibly funny, utterly ridiculous, insanely heartwarming & a full timepass story. Read it to have a really good time. To lift your spirits & put that magic back into ur heart & mind.

This book is so funny -- I guffawed multiple times! And yet at times I had tears in my eyes, touched by the love the characters had for each other, and sad for Sam who loved someone who he couldn't have. It is a silly adventure, and also a coming of age story. It's a great tale of friendship and adventure and I loved every word of it!
