I think this is my favourite read since before Covid hit the UK. I know it won’t be for everyone but I’m completely blown away. The narrative juggling act is masterful and it’s a truly insightful account of teenage girlhood. Penance manages to sink its teeth into the knottiness of the true crime boom in a way that feels interrogative but never hectoring. Just… wow.
