Wasn’t sure about the book in the first bit— seemed like a lot of unnecessary worldbuilding around the town the story takes place in. But as I continued, the book turned into a gripping story that called into question internet culture and true crime trends. So refreshing to read from an author that understands the internet in a native way. I hope the right people find this book, critics weren’t fair to it!

This book was fine, it captured the voices of the teens and (most of) the internet culture of the era really well, but I do think it fell into its own trap a bit in over focusing on the perpetrators without a lot of self awareness, and a few things about the internet culture of the time are inaccurate in a way that annoyed me (especially the assertion about ao3 because I think the truth actually adds to the book's point). The twist is so obvious from pretty much the beginning that the epilogue feels like a joke.

this was so well done!! this also dealt with extremely dark topics so be warned!! the story centers around an unreliable narrator‘s book concerning the brutal murder of a 16 year old girl by three of her classmates.
man, eliza clark has become an auto-buy author for me, her prose is excellent and her stories always interesting and captivating!
