I took my time reading this collection, but toward the end I really went to town with it. Knowing some major points from the latter books, I immediately dove into The Return of Sherlock Holmes upon finishing The Memoirs.

If you like Holmes you'll like this collection of stories. Though not as strong as some of the earlier works, it still stands out for some major character development and Doyle's excellent portrayal of Watson and Holmes.

I read all the Sherlock Holmes stories cover to cover years ago, haven't re-read any in a long time. I bought a fancy copy of this used, and idly opened it, and without planning to read the whole thing. I have read so many fake Sherlocks in the ensuing years it was nice to remember I was reading REAL Holmes, and I didn't have to worry that he was secretly Jack the Ripper or married to Irene Adler or that Watson was really a girl. Whew.

Found some of the stories quite boring, but overall a fun read. The writing style of this book seemed more slow than the others in the series, which made it more difficult to get through, hoping that the next book isn't as slow.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It's like old timey CSI, and now I get what made these stories popular. They are fast paced and fun, they always have a twist, and they never go on for too long. The stories are chock full of hilarious old fashioned British-isms, ("Well I'm a blind beetle!") and the last story is all about Moriarty. What more could you ask for? Now I need to read the novels too.

I'm kind of getting tired of it.

nice. none of this one particularly stood out to me at all, especially given the overlap between this and the last in the series (the name completely slips my mind) though i adore sherlock as always

I enjoy listening to these stories, some of which are familiar from various Sherlock Holmes inspired TV shows and some which are not. I do find the character both fascinating and annoying at the same time, but still marvel at the impact that Doyle's writing has had on the mystery genre since flavors of Holmes exist in much of what we digest in this arena. That said, these stories, which are told as accounts of the adventures of Holmes and Watson by Watson are about 90% exposition and stand apart from action because of that. Sometimes it does make the story a bit wearying.
