Note that a character threatens to throw away a child's toys. There is a threat to an infant's life, that instead manifests as a curse. Mentions of mice considering eating humans, which is technically not cannibalism but may still affect those with that trigger.aconfundityofcrows's review against another edition

For some reason I thought I had already read the original nutcracker story, but I’ve never heard this story before now. I’ve seen the ballet twice and a million more times in other forms whether film adaptations, live recordings, or what not. This story is so much more complete overall than the one presented in the ballet, which was always a grief I had with the ballet. The story is fairytale weird and strange, but that is one of the things I love about fairy tales and stories inspired by fairy tales.
Graphic: Blood
Moderate: Animal death, Body shaming, and Violence
Minor: Grief, Colonisation, and Ableism
