Exciting first volume in a new comics series by Joe Hill that combines horror, fantasy, and Hill's massive daddy issues. There's a fascinating plot set up here, with good use of flashbacks, and also some cool characters--both male and female (which is in large part an improvement over Pops). I'm looking forward to the release of the next volume in September.

I do not recommend this comic if you're sensitive to gore, violence, and murder. There is a lot of it in here.
I really didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. I know they made it into a Netflix series, so I was assuming it was going to be a little bit like the Umbrella academy, weird but interesting. It was just gory and slow moving. I have hope for the next volume, so I'm going to keep reading, but if the next volume doesn't improve I'll stop there.

Why the hell didn't I get the other ones?!?! I read this graphic novel so fast and didn't think I would like it as much as I did... Therefore, I did not request the others from my library... (Kicking myself right now!) I heard many good things on book tubers blogs about this book. It was so good. The most perfect graphic novel for the Halloween time of the year. Seriously, get it. Read it. LOVE IT!! Get creeped out by it to. Happy creeping reading :)

The story is new and is filled with interesting characters that are well drawn. Children scared by the death of their parents are moved to a house that has secrets of its own. Darkness and death seem folllow them. This is a good start a series.
