This was a good book but not enough to keep a hold of my attention span... it was extremely hard to try and go through the whole book...

I like post-apocalyptic tales, and this was an interesting set-up. The colony, being a secluded safe haven between a cliff and a river, reverting back to early ways (including dress), while the "infected" roam the world. Nightwalkers (vampires) also exist, and work with the colony, protecting them in exchange for volunteers for feeding.
Here, many of the regular vampire stereotypes do not apply. They can be out in the sun, they can consume animal blood, a stake to the heart will make them mad but not kill them. A human can be turned by consuming a single drop of vampire blood. Both the infected and vampires are said to be two of the curses originally unleashed in Egypt during biblical times.
I found the story interesting. The three kids in the family being named Mercedes, Porshia and Ford was a funny little addition. As in so many tales, our main character is the less-favored sister, no boys paying attention to her, then suddenly, three of them (two vamps and one human) fighting over her. Not sure about the instant attraction from the vampires, and while the relationship with Saul starts suddenly out of nowhere, at least that is a little more believable, although still a stretch.
There were little drops (of blood) visuals throughout the book. Effective ...
I found a couple of instances where the writing was really repetitive, they were "thankful to make it back to the crossing themselves, heaving for breath and thankful they'd made it" (two thankfuls in one sentence? Page 14) and "luckily the other were luckier" (page 103). But overall, I didn't catch any other editing issues (as is often the case with these independently published works).
I realized I had read another book/series by this author ... Reap. I really liked book 1, but book 2 fell apart on me. Hopefully not the case here, as I am going on to the second in the series. This book DID end on an absolute, while not unforeseen, cliffhanger ...

So first off, I can't wait for the next! Wow totally unexpected ending! I could not stop reading! Beautiful writing and amazing story. I absolutely loved the blending of both vampire and "zombie" mixed into a dystopian setting. Genius!

One of few book featuring zombies, I like. Maybe it has to do with hot vampires, or they are just written well. :D
Amazing post-apocalyptic story. Full of twist and turns. Author has created enthralling world, that I would love to read more about. Highly recommend it.
