I appreciate this story more as I grow older. Friendship across generations is very special. This short story illustrates the friendship between 7 year old buddy and his 60 something cousin and their fruitcake and kite flying adventures.

A delightful little read. The illustrations were lovely.
Had to read this for an English essay. It was so good. It was so well written and heartfelt that I cried a bit at the end. Glad my teacher assigned this story.

This is the second thing I read almost every Christmas. This is a bittersweet story about the relationship between a very young person and an older relative, their connection, and their separation. It's a beautiful story about appreciating what we have and loss. Truman Capote gets the balance right: the self-centered world of childhood, the comedy, the drama, the holidays with loved ones, and loss.
Anyway, I highly recommend this book. Although it will make you sad, it will also likely make you reflect on the people in your life you've lost or lost contact with, and good holiday memories.
