a VERY short, sweet Christmas read. I don't usually go for Christmas books, but my mom does, and knowing this was Capote, I had to make sure it was something her tender heart could handle. despite the sad ending, almost an afterword, I think she will. She grasps the beauty in life the same way his "friend" in the book seems to. I think this memory of his is a testament to the power of some sweet and innocent souls to rise above the things that surround them and see only the joy and beauty in life. whether he intended it that way or not. I can see why people would make this an annual read. it makes me remember to be thankful for what I have.

3.5- I loved the writing, and this might've finally persuaded me to pick up Breakfast at Tiffany's. Overall, really sweet, so so nostalgic, and almost made me cry!

One of Truman Capote's best short stories and my personal favorite. Although Capote is more well known for books like "In Cold Blood," I think that this little gem was his true masterpiece. It will make you cry.

I'm sitting here getting way to emotional over this short story. The descriptions were so beautiful. The descriptions in the first two pages of the story had me really excited to read the rest. I was already invested. It was a sweet story about a young child's friendship with an elderly woman in his family. It really got to me. Beautiful story. I want to find a physical copy for my shelf.

This short story wraps around you like steam from a mug of your favorite drink and lingers in your mind for months after the holiday season ends. I cannot rave enough about this Christmas story: though semi-autobiographical, Capote has a way of making you feel like you’re reading about your own Christmas tradition—even though I’m pretty sure i’ve never actually eaten a slice of fruitcake for Christmas. That whole sad-content-warm-drippy-nostalgic feeling that the holidays make us all feel? Capote puts it on paper

I had the bad luck of working right through the Christmas period (Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day) and wanted to read something festive on my breaks. I read this collection and it was a joy.

The writing was phenomenal and so beautiful. It has definitely made me want to read more by Capote.

Lovely stories with incredible writing but ultimately forgettable.
