Was I living under a rock for the last four years? How did I miss the sexual assault allegations from MZB's daughter? I loved and read this book in the 80s, but my copy has been sent to Goodwill after reading the essay and article below. Sexual abuse has harmed too many of the people I love, I just can't unsee.

Wow, lots of people really love this book, but I was bored numb by it. The writing style was stiff and wooden, and the characters were lackluster. Let's face it, at this point, we're not reading any take on Arthurian legend for the plot; we all know what happens. So it comes down to perspective, and I was excited to read the story from a female point of view. Unfortunately, none of the characters in this book captured my interest in the least. I couldn't care about their perspective when they were so flat and dull. I really dislike giving anything just one star, but when I find myself begrudging a book the time it took me to read it...

At first I loved the book, it’s very mysterious, the female characters were very strong and interesting, the magic and religion lore was captivating, but the more I read the more it became weird to say the least. A lot of sex, incest and rape, everyone is obsessed with religion and the message is unclear, I thought it was a feminist take of the arthurian legend but it didn’t feel like that, it became quite twisted. I became bored halfway through the book and read the last 200 pages very quickly. Also the author raped her minor daughter for years with her husband so I will not read anything from her ever again, especially since it’s so boring and twisted. Im very disappointed because I enjoyed the first half of it and it looked promising with all the topics about witchcraft and « feminism take » but it’s actually quite vapid and hollow and disturbing. I’ve rarely been so disappointed in a book in my life I thought I’d never finish it.

Adorei esta saga. Foram os primeiros livros do género Fantástico que li. Este é sem dúvida o tipo de leitura que mais me agrada.

I don't quite know how to rate this book. One the one hand, I think the writing was mostly beautiful and I can't say I was ever bored. But there wasn't one single likable character. I had no one to root for through the whole nearly 900 pages. I hated everyone.

And it really didn't need to be 900 pages. There were some things that were just so repetitive and slow moving, and we didn't need to hear about it for the 50th time.

It's definitely not one I'd read again, as it took me forever to get through, but I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed my time reading it, even with the previously mentioned faults.
