Since I had read the rest of the series, this book gave me closure, but not much else.

Read up on Marion Zimmer Bradley and then DNF. I was around 1/3 of the way through, and looking into the author was triggered by a weird throwaway line that seemed to describe a child being raped, which I'm now convinced is exactly what the line was about. I'm not 100% sure where I stand on the separation of art and artist issue on a logical morality standpoint, but regardless of that I now don't want to read her work.

I feel it is best for me to leave this without a rating.

Marion does an excellent job blending believable reality's of the time period with the mystery and vague magic from Athurian legends. The cast of characters we follow, namely Morgaine and other female characters from the Legend are really well fleshed out and very different from one another so you can get multiple views of the same event at time. My only complaint is rather than focusing on one time period the book is a huge spread from even before our main characters birth all the way to towards the end of her life, so the plot hops forward several years at a time and relies either on monologues from the main character talking to the audience or other characters discussing off-screen events in order to catch us up.

Learned that the author did some pretty horrific things within her family and just can’t keep reading, especially given some of the content in the first part and how closely related it is to her real life. Can’t do it. I’d say more but honestly TWs for so much.
