This book does subvert some of the usual Chosen One tropes and I found that interesting. I also found the world building interesting.
Graphic: Child death, Death, and Violence
Moderate: Abandonment
It starts out as a typical high fantasy but I have a feeling that in the rest of the trilogy, it will be revealed to be SF in the style of Anne McCaffrey's Pern series or Sharon Shinn's Samaria series.themoodreader's review against another edition

The Convent raises girls to be warriors. The girls are trained in many ways from fighting to potion making. Nona is great at everything she does. She quickly rises to the top.
The book has a good premises. The set up is ready for the next book. I just found it hard to really care what was happening. Maybe if I had physically read it instead of audio, but I tried physically reading it first and had the same issue. Pretty sure by the ratings it's a me issue.
Graphic: Abandonment, Murder, and Blood
