This Lisa Jewell thriller had the right combination of interesting characters and plot twists. The Family Upstairs weaves three different storylines- the present Libby who is trying to understand her past, Lucy who’s life is a mess, and Henry who is telling the back story. Would be a great book club pick as there’s lots to discuss.

This is a difficult one to rate. The subject matter is pretty uncomfortable and the characters are quite unpleasant but it’s a fast read that keeps you guessing until the very end.

I can’t say I enjoyed it because, as I said, it’s bizarre and uncomfortable.

I actually looked at a flat on Cheyne Walk last year and can only imagine being significantly spooked if I’d chosen that flat and read this!

2023 Update: a few months after I read this the first time, I ended up moving a block north of Cheyne Walk. Any time I’d walk along Chelsea Embankment, I’d gawp at the houses along that street!
