It has been a long time since I have read an entire volume of anything in one sitting. I'm puzzled how this illustrator and author can find new ways for me to empathize, cheer, or hate the characters I thought I knew well. The characters, world building and lore of this world continues to expand in interesting and new ways. I now have to patiently wait for a new volume after I have fallen in love with this world even harder then when it first started.
As the poets say, please let this comic have many, many issues.

The grip Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda have on my eyes. Streak continues with volume 7 of Monstress: Devourer.
Things aren't great for our cast. The Dusk Court has made a big play, the Wolves are all in various states of incapacitation, and the Baroness is making me feel bad for her. Which should be illegal! And then we find find out some of the past. Wouldn't be Monstress if it wasn't rough.
But there is always Professor Tam Tam.
Reasons to read:
-Every character looks like they could be the protagonist of their own story
-Found a way to make me feel bad for a betrayer
-Just look at the art!
Cons:
-I am hesitant to pick up volume 8 because of the implications...

Phenomenal. I have always loved this series, but volume 7 is by far my favourite and arguably the most powerful entry to date.
While Maika is still a central character fighting her own mind, much of the story is devoted to the side characters. Each one has a strong moment, particularly Tuya, Kippa, and my favourite, Corvin.
We’re introduced to more elements of the Dusk Court and those working against it. Nothing about this novel is simple, from its themes to its setting to its world and content. This is a grim book. Yet, near the end when the need is most dire, there is a much needed undercurrent of hope.
The world building and introduction of new characters makes this a complex read that requires a lot of attention. Nonetheless, it is a powerful story and worth every high fantasy reader’s time.
And the art style… Sana Takeda has always been enormously talented, but in this entry she has truly stepped up her game. It is beautiful in every sense of the word.
I was sad when the book ended because I am desperate for more. There is so much going on, so much to discover, that I can hardly wait for the next entry. One of my favourite reads of 2022 and still my favourite graphic novel series of all time.
