I feel like I need to read it all over again now that I understand the concept. I feel like I missed so much.
When I started reading Life After Life, I didn't know what to think. Picked up in the "New Bestsellers" area at Barnes and Noble, I expected this book to be good, but really had no idea what it was going to be about, other than reincarnation (hence the title Life After Life).
So, I started reading, and honestly, I didn't rate this book four stars because this book did have some ups and downs for me. There were parts where it was AMAZING and there were parts where I was like mehhhhh I could take or leave this book right now. This is why I gave it a four.
However, when I got to the end of the book, I can honestly say I had so much love for the book, the author, the book's characters. I just felt that great feeling one gets from reading a GREAT book!
So, in the end, I guess I can say I loved this book and i'm considering putting it on my spectacular books list, but probably not until I read it again because it's not quite there yet.
However, if you are reading or considering reading this book, I encourage you to pick it up and persevere because it really is AMAZING in the end, and it's worth it to keep going!
That's my take on LIFE AFTER LIFE by Kate Atkinson....Hope you're enjoying all your summer reads (:

I'm very conflicted. I enjoyed reading this in the sense that Ursula learned more every reincarnation of her own life and the details of that life were always a little different, but the death march was constant. The befriending of Eva Braun so Ursula could kill Hitler made me cringe. And there was no end in sight at the last chapter. Just another iteration of pain and mistakes and shadows of things she doesn't understand.
a nick clegg, will & kate, paddington bear sort of book.
Have you ever wondered what you would do differently if given the chance to live your life, or a part of it over again? This is the idea explored in this book and as a result we are jumping around in Ursula's timeline a fair bit. It took a bit of time to become comfortable with the flow of the book, once I did I really enjoyed it.

Equal parts fascinating and boring to read.
This novel has a brilliant concept and style, however, it was hard to get really engaged in it because the writing and structure was unnecessarily complicated at times.
The relationships between characters stood out as very well developed

It IS repetitive, with a few threads that are dangled unnecessarily when you realise that by the end they won't ever be pulled or woven into the story. That said, 4* for a compelling blitz narrative (that doesn't shy away from how often young women have to feel unsafe as they navigate their lives).
