great book, hard to put down

3 stars only because I totally didn't get the ending.

I listened to the book on audio, and that is likely impacting my rating for the book.

The story jumps back to the 'beginning' multiple times at the beginning of the novel and if you don't pay attention it can get very confusing. Once I got far enough in to the story I was intrigued to complete, and loved catching connections between different sections.

Very enjoyable. I was pleasantly surprised.

I quite liked the variations of Ursula’s life. The story was well written,  with other characters picked up and dropped out depending on the story. Different to other books in this historical fiction period.

I just don't know.

So much of this book was excruciating to read b/c like Ursula, I was experiencing it for the umpteenth time.

It was also a legitimate page-turner, full of rich characters (a million of 'em!), a harsh window into London's blitz and unbelievably creative at every step.

Again, I just don't know. I loved it in one way. And feel absolutely like WHAT WAS THE POINT in another. Is this what the author feels about life? Like half loving it half wondering what in the blue blazes we are doing here?

(Can you tell I just finished the book 3 minutes ago?)

Sigh.

If someone asked me, "How did it end?" I would have to say say, "Uhm. Well. I'm not sure."

I just don't know.

and the cover? what? what is that? it doesn't remotely go with the book.

I consistently wavered between interest and disinterest throughout the novel. The premise is compelling -- but there wasn't enough to keep me engaged between the brief interludes of examining what it might mean to be able to relive an experience and make different choices. I so wanted to love this book but found it just ok.
