Although this book dragged a lot for me, there are definitely things I liked about it. The main characters are likable, sympathetic, compassionate, and smart. It's easy to root for them, especially since they work so hard to achieve their goals and make their dreams come true. I like the fact that Ro is interested in STEM. The book also teaches some good lessons about friendship, family, standing up to bullies, and never giving up. Unfortunately, the plot just didn't grab me. The story got dull, so I found myself putting the book down frequently and not necessarily wanting to pick it back up. It's not a bad book at all—it's just not one that resonated all that much with me. If I could, I would give CLUES TO THE UNIVERSE 3 1/2 stars; since I can't, I'm rounding up.

Strong characters and a strong plot. Two kids become friends. One father has died and the other one would like to find his died. His friend tries to help him find his father in exchange for him helping her with building a rocket (a connection she had with her father).

I can see why this is a Utah Beehive Book Award nomination. I think it is a very cute story of friendship and overcoming trials and challenges. I LOVED the last few lines in the book!
