This was perhaps on par to the first book for me, but I couldn't help but think that the story as a whole would have been better integrated as a standalone. It might have fixed some of the pacing issues and made it feel fuller, rather than being stuck with two quite short books which felt half-complete and a bit of a drag. Once again my favourite parts were Anna taking in children - this time Jiro, who learns of who her and Khiran are. The ending was a tad predictable, and

I think I would have preferred it if they had lived and died a mortal death rather than being granted the peach again.

This was an interesting read though, and definitely not what I expected. I am glad I picked this up.

This duology was devastatingly good! The writing was gorgeous, and the love story was heartbreakingly beautiful. I loved it.

I rated the first book 5 but I'm going down to 3 here. I just didn't find the villain's motivation or existence logical. It just made no sense. The final battle scene felt underwhelming.
