I was given the incredible opportunity to read this (masterpiece) early. After swallowing this book in two big gulps (life got in the way), I can’t really find words great enough to explain just how beautiful this story was and how dearly I’ll miss Anna and Khiran.

— ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ stars and an extra ✶ for good measure !!!

R. Raeta spins words like they’re magic, like they’re glitter and gold, even when they’re painful and heartbreaking and burn tears out your eyes. The high quality of the first book has not been lost through the second one. At times I caught myself holding my breath, be it from anxiously anticipating what happens next or the literal beauty of the writing.

In this sequel we get to see more of the world (mundane and magical), we dig deeper into Khirans story, and many of the other gods. In the limited pages we get, the new characters are given so much life, fleshed out enough for me to truly love or hate. Amongst all those things, I’m so grateful that we get to see the heroines power remain in her empathy, kindness and compassion. That humanity prevails, and these qualities still exist amongst all the cruelty and hardship.

I couldn’t have asked for a better ending to this tale.

I believe this duology will forever remain imprinted on my soul.

The grammar was a bit better in this one, but it was little boring. The first 50% or so felt pretty slow and meandering, and then the climax and ending felt rushed. Overall I did enjoy the story though, and it’s been one of few series where I actually found the love between the MCs to be believable.

This surprised me. I loved the first one so much I was worried the sequel would ruin it. The ending is a happy one, and I feel wraps it up well. The magic is explained, and specifically Anna’s role in everything. She still remains kind, even after all she goes through and I honestly love that so much. She’s a protagonist where it isn’t a weakness but a strength. I love the twist with the ring, and also the twist with Malik.
The death of Eira was painful but was so important. I hate when deaths are used for shock but never have consequences. The author really uses Eira to bring about the First’s demise.
There weren’t really any unanswered questions and everyone got a happy ending. The romance is as beautiful as ever, the devotion intense. These two are the definition of ride or die. Anna srill remained so humane despite being immortal and this was just a beautiful duology I absolutely devoured (like that peach)

This duology was so beautifully written. My heart broke and healed so many times.

Omg this was beautiful and heart wrenching. Did not know what to expect with the plot development, but it was delightful. The author includes the following in her closing acknowledgements: “Sometimes, I think of all the ways humanity has failed and the grief of it feels too heavy to breathe through. Then, I look and I see all the Anna’s of the world—people who are strong because of their unwavering empathy and compassion—and things feel a little less hopeless. Thank you. Thank you for saving this world one person, one action, one protest, at a time. If I have one hope for this story, it is that these words helped you feel seen as the heroes that you are. If I have one wish, it is that this story inspires kindness in a world that is so, so desperate for it.”

Heartbreakingly beautiful story, just like the first book. I laughed, and I cried. I'm satisfied with the ending, but I want more of Anna and Khiran. I need a novella of just them happily living out their lives and exploring the world together.
