First I would like to say that I am so happy that I received an ARC of this book! This was one of my anticipated reads for this year and it didn't disappoint. This review will have spoilers in it so be warned!
"This is Anna, my...person. My heart."
I really don't even know where to begin with this review but here we go. Anna and Khiran have found themselves preparing for the worst. Anna lives a quiet life in California while Khrian continues to roam the continents to avoid suspicion on the one thing he holds dear--Anna. Unfortunately, the quiet life they tried to hold onto is put into danger and they're forced to flee. They spend years on the run until it all comes to an end.
I adored the first book, and when I finished it earlier this year, the only thing I could think of was "oh no, what will happen now". This book did everything I needed it to do and so much more. For most of the year I have been in an intense reading slump, so it did take me a bit to get through this book for that reason; however, once I forced myself to settle in, I was hooked. This book is just so magical. There is something about seeing Anna and Khiran go from place to place over the years that makes me so happy.
There were a lot of things that I loved in this book, but I'll start with the characters. Anna and Khiran will always and forever have my heart. The progression of their relationship from the beginning to the end of the series was quite literally everything. I'm a sucker for star-crossed lovers and love that transcends time. There was just something so organic about them and their relationship that didn't feel rushed, forced, or boring. They just completed each other in every single way. Even toward the end when Khiran was different she still was there with him every step of the way. The love was never lost, and I always appreciate a story where the romance is balanced well (and supports) the plot. Aside from the two main characters, I loved all the side characters. It was interesting learning more about the world that was constructed. No character was there to be a throwaway; everyone served a purpose.
As for the plot, I loved it. I was on the edge of my seat with each chapter. I kept waiting for the shoe to drop, and when I thought it would...it didn't. So I was constantly waiting and trying to figure out where the story was going. I was so nervous for Anna and Khiran, but watching the interactions with every new character made the anxiety worth it lol.
I could say so many things about this series, but I will finish with this. Both books had me so emotional at different points, but the emotional roller coaster was so worth it. I am forever grateful for that TikTok I saw recommending Peaches & Honey to me. Pits & Poisons now holds a special place in my heart. I was fighting tears during the Holi chapter, and I cried during the last four or five chapters. I had no clue how the story would end, but the ending was so satisfying and everything I wanted. Needless to say...absolutely loved this book, and it's bittersweet to see Anna and Khiran's story end

I fell in love reading the first book of this duology. I fell in love with the characters, the writing, the pace, just everything. So when I started reading this one, I was really scared that this couldn’t possibly be as good.
Oh boy was I wrong.
It’s so beautifully written, the characters are raw and real and this book had me with tears in my eyes multiple times.
I’m currently on my way to read all her books.
