This series has taken over my heart and soul. I love it so much. It has left me with such a beautiful ache in my chest that I’m not sure I’ll ever get over. The way that this author writes leaves you with so much awe and melancholy. Every scene and character is so so beautiful. I feel so intertwined with magic and imagery she creates. The history, the slow burn romance, the relationships, the thoughts of life, THE ENDING? Nothing short of perfection. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put my thoughts into words, so please just read this series. That’s all.
Quotes:
‘She looks back at the woman who taught her how to live instead of survive—registers the softness of her smile and the goodbye in it.’
“But I can forgive you for not seeing how brightly you shine.”

I enjoyed this one but didn’t love it like the first. I think the biggest issue for me is this book lost a lot of tension from about 30% until 70%.
I felt like anna and Kherian spent too much time on running away and didn’t have enough agency in this book.
Even the threat of him no longer being able to find her—which could have been devastating and exciting—was barely used.
I was worried the time period being shorter might make it dull, but that wasn’t the case. I enjoyed traveling to some new locations in this one.
I think it was just too easy for Khiran and Anna. They spent the entire book fleeing conflict. I would have liked to see them choose to fight at the midpoint and start having a lot more agency instead of being forced to act.
I did love Jiro and his relationship with Anna (and his tension with Khiran.)
And I still loved Silas. I hope he and Cassius get a peach too and live HEA.
