This was a good end to the duology. The pacing was slower in this book until the final climax with The First.

Anna and Khiran forever 🥰

“Anna, victory could be written in the stars, and it still wouldn’t be enough to convince me to risk you.”

“Together, remember?”

✨”Power isn’t always loud; sometimes it’s quiet, subtle.”
✨”Living takes strength, but that doesn’t mean you have to do it alone.”
✨”Grief is a strange thing. It’s the difference between fighting against the current and letting the river sweep her away. Struggle and surrender. Anna thinks it feels a little bit like drowning. Limbs weightless and cold. Suspended in time while the world continues to turn.”
✨”How easy it must be to hold on to an apology when you think you have an eternity to make it.”
✨”If oppression can breed cruelty, then perhaps empathy can heal it.”
✨”Regrets are stubborn things. They sink their teeth and hold on even as other hopes and other dreams slip through her fingers.”

Raeta is truly a brilliant author. He prose is beautiful and the way she paints a narrative is always a heartfelt feat.

For some reason, I wasn't brought to tears like so many other readers. The first book had be in tears in spades, so I might be in the wrong headspace, but I do feel fully satisfied with the beauty of the conclusion.

I'd recommend this series to just about anyone. It's wonderful.
